It's
not hard to find something Indian or Japanese in Finland. There is a bit of South Africa here. But Mongolia in Helsinki sounds even
more exotic! In the Korkeasaari zoo lives a small herd of
Przewalski's horse from Mongolia, and near their place there is also
a Mongolian yurt (ger).
Such
a pretty door!
Instead
of knocking on the door, say “Nokhoi khor” (Hold the dog) before
entering a yurt. It means “Can I come in?”
A tonttu near the yurt.

Przewalski's horses became extinct in the wild, but were saved by zoos. They've
been brought back to Mongolia in 1992. They live in herds.
For
comparison, in this video you can see how short their hair is in
summer.
It's very interesting to see South Africa in Finland.
ReplyDeleteWe also celebrate Chinese New Year and we have our own hanami here. There are many ethnic restaurants, books in foreign languages in the local libraries, immigrants from all over the world - Finland can be quite exotic :)
DeleteI would like to visit Finland. I visited many times Sankt Peterburg and also have some relatives in Viborg, this is a small city not so far from Gulf of Finland :)
DeleteVyborg used to be a Finnish town, by the way. Finns call it Viipuri.
wowwwwww that's so so so intresting post!
ReplyDeleteEach culture is very nice :)
Have a nice Christmas!!!
Liuba
Thanks and you too! ^^
DeleteThat looks like a very nice house, but cold! I still prefer to sleep under a tree in warmest Africa. :)
ReplyDeleteXmas is almost over in Tokyo, but you still have a few hours in Finland. Enjoy, Ekaterina, and I hope 2013 is a wonderful year ... a year in which your book(s) are accepted by a publisher! ^^
Thanks! ^^ Honestly, simply finishing the first draft would be enough for now :D
